Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What are the limitations of the Trial version?

The Trial version has all features of the registered version. The evaluation period is limited to 30 days since the first use of the program. You need a valid License Key to use Swordfish after the evaluation period ends.

I have a desktop PC and a laptop, can I use Swordfish in both computers with one license?

You can install Swordfish in many computers with one license. However, you can only use a Swordfish license in one computer at a time.

Swordfish lets you register and disable a license online. You can register a license in your workstation and work for as long as you wish. When you want to work in your laptop, disable the license in your desktop PC and then register it on the laptop.

Registering/disabling operations take less than 10 seconds.

I get "Could not create Java Virtual Machine" on Windows. What does it mean?

Java was not able to allocate enough memory and exited with an error.

Swordfish asked Java to reserve up to 1GB of RAM (it may nod neet all that RAM) and Windows told Java that there is not enough memory. You may have enough memory on your PC, but for some reason it is not available to Java.

You can download swordfish.zip and extract its content in the directory where Swordfish is installed (the folder where Swordfish.exe is located). This will add a file named Swordfish.bat that you can use to launch Swordfish reserving only 500MB of RAM. You can edit Swordfish.bat and choose to use less RAM if necessary.

How do I translate a Microsoft Office Document?

Swordfish supports the new XML format of MS Office 2007. If you have an older version of Office, download the free Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats and save your files in the new format.

Swordfish also supports RTF (Rich Text Format). You can save your .DOC files as .RTF using Word, translate the RTF version and then save the translated version as .DOC using Word. This is not recommended if the document contains many images or if it is a large.

As an option, you can open your files with OpenOffice and save them in OpenDocument format. You can then convert the translated files back to Microsoft Office format using OpenOffice
